Privacy notice for the 5od ad tag
This notice covers the 5od ad tag that runs on websites showing 5od ads, and the 5od.co.uk website. Contact: hello@5od.co.uk.
What 5od records
- Counts, per day. For each site, ad slot and banner: how many times an ad was shown, how many times it was at least half on screen for a second, and how many times it was clicked. These counts are not linked to any person.
- The page address. The tag tells 5od the address of the page the slot is on, without the part after a “?”. 5od uses it to choose a banner that fits the page, and keeps a topic profile of that page, not of the visitor. When you click an ad, the page address may go to the advertising network with the click, so the sale can be traced to the page.
- A scrambled form of your IP address, for two days at most. Your IP address is combined with a random value that changes every day and turned into a code that can’t be reversed. 5od uses the code only to limit requests from one source and to spot repeated clicks. It is deleted after two days, along with the random values.
- Your browser’s user-agent is checked to filter out automated traffic (bots), and is used in the repeated-click code. It is not stored on its own.
What 5od does not do
- 5od does not set cookies, use local storage or fingerprint your device.
- 5od does not build profiles of people or follow you from site to site.
- 5od does not sell data.
The advertising networks we work with
The banners and the links behind them come from the affiliate advertising networks that 5od works with. When a banner image loads, it comes from the network’s servers. The network uses that to count the view, and it can set cookies, such as a session cookie for ad frequency and, where the advertiser has turned it on, a “post-view” cookie lasting about 24 hours. If you click an ad, the network sets tracking cookies so the advertiser can pay commission if you buy. These typically last 30 days, and one of them lasts a year. These cookies generally need your consent. Sites showing 5od ads should cover the advertising network in their own cookie banner, and 5od can pass your choice on to the network when the site supports it. The “Why this ad?” link on each banner says which advertiser it is from; email us to ask which network supplied it.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask what we hold about you and ask us to correct or delete it. 5od doesn’t hold anything that identifies you. The scrambled IP codes can’t be traced back to you, and they are deleted within two days. To ask a question or complain, email us. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
