Contextual banner ads · UK

The right banner for the page it’s on.

5od picks a banner from affiliate advertisers to match what a page is about: pet food on a vet’s site, train tickets on a railway blog. It looks at the page, not the person reading it.

Private beta: 5od isn’t open to other sites yet.

How it works

  1. 01

    Read the page

Each site and page gets a topic profile, using a shared list of about 150 topics (for example “Pets › Pet food” or “Travel › Rail & trains”).

  2. 02

    Match the advertiser

Advertisers get topics too, from their sector and description. The banner must be exactly the right size for the slot and allowed for the site’s country, and the site can block advertisers it doesn’t want.

  3. 03

    Show it plainly

Every banner carries an “Ad” label and a “Why this ad?” link. If nothing fits the page, the slot shows a 5od notice or stays empty. It never fills up with something unrelated.

What 5od doesn’t do

  • 5od itself sets no cookies and uses no local storage or fingerprinting.
  • No profiles of people. It only counts ads shown and clicked, per day.
  • Banners are shown at their own size, exactly as the advertiser supplied them.

The banner images and links come from the advertising network, which may set its own cookies. Our privacy notice explains this.

Publishers

5od is a private network for now. Other publishers may be able to join later. More about that.
